Window Cleaning in Morro Bay

In Morro Bay the salt on your glass never gets a dry day to set into a film that lifts in one pass, so it goes back into solution overnight and dries down into the same pane again. That decides the method here, not just how often somebody comes.

Glass here gets re-wetted every night, and that changes the method

Inland glass gets dirty and stays dirty until somebody cleans it. Morro Bay glass does something stranger. Salt blows in off open water every day of the year, lands on a pane that is already damp, and never dries into the hard film a single pass can lift. Instead it goes back into solution in the night fog and dries down again the next morning, a little further into the corners each time. By the time the haze is obvious you are not looking at one layer of dirt, you are looking at a deposit that has cycled wet and dry a hundred times over.

That cycling is why what gets left behind matters more here than anywhere inland. A soap and squeegee clean leaves a faint surfactant edge around the perimeter of the pane. On a dry inland wall it dries there and sits harmlessly until the next visit. In Morro Bay the fog comes back that same night, re-wets that edge and pulls it inward, and by the second morning there is a visible ring on glass that looked perfect when the van pulled away. Purified water through a water fed pole leaves nothing behind for the fog to find, which is the whole reason it holds up in this town.

The rest of it is what the glass is set into. Salt collects in the top track, in the weep holes and along the head of an aluminum frame, and every one of those sits above the pane. Clean the glass, leave the frame loaded, and the next fog runs the salt straight back down over the work. On the hill that shows up soonest, because the big west facing view glass takes the onshore wind square on and is usually two or three floors up on the downhill side, which is the pane nobody is checking between visits.

What changes in Morro Bay

  • The west facing view glass fails first and fastest

The pane people bought the house for is the one pointed straight at the water, and it takes the onshore load with nothing in front of it. On a Morro Bay hillside lot that pane is also two or three floors up on the downhill side. Water fed poles reach it from the ground, and a quote that skips it because it is awkward has missed the only window that mattered.

  • The inside stays clean while the outside falls apart

There is almost no airborne dust in this town, so interior glass in Morro Bay holds up for months while the exterior goes hazy in weeks. That makes an exterior only visit between full cleans a genuinely sensible option here. In Santa Maria it would be false economy, because field silt comes straight through an open window and the inside dirties on a clock much closer to the outside.

  • Tracks, weep holes and screens reload the pane

Salt sits in the mesh of a screen and in the bottom track long after the glass looks right, and the next damp morning carries it back onto the pane. Screens here get washed and rinsed rather than wiped over, because dragging a cloth across dry salt in mesh just moves it. Doing the glass alone in Morro Bay buys you about a week.

  • It is salt on these panes, not calcium, and that is good news

Inland the lower panes fail from well water sprinkler overspray, which leaves calcium and eventually etches the glass permanently. Morro Bay panes are almost always carrying salt instead, and salt has not bonded into the surface the way calcium does. It rinses. A hazy window here is usually recoverable, where the same haze on a Paso Robles well property often is not.

How often, here

Three to four cleans a year suits most Morro Bay homes, and west facing view glass on the hill sits at the top of that range. San Luis Obispo, ten miles up the valley, is usually fine on two or three. Baywood-Los Osos, round the back of the estuary, lands on the same three to four rather than stretching further, and it gets there from the other end of the wall: the number over there is set by the lowest row of glass, where the number here is set by the highest and most exposed. Storefront glass along the Embarcadero is on a different clock again and is better handled as short regular route work.

The light literally shines brighter

Every word below is lifted straight from Corey's Google profile. Nothing written by us, nothing tidied up.

Crystal Clean was at our house this morning to clean all the windows on the first and second story and did a wonderful job. Corey is a perfectionist and is very detail oriented. He cleaned the windows inside and out, cleaned the screens, cleaned the tracks, and even all the window sills.

The best!!! On time, very confident and considerate inside our home as well as outside. Corey and his son are very professional at what they do. 2 objectives we needed done. 1 very hard to reach interior skylight and our solar panels needed cleaning. We will definitely have them back on a yearly maintenance plan for sure.

Communication was top shelf. Timely, arrival and departure. Fairly priced to local competition. Professional, beginning to end. Ran a clean operation, wore booties over shoes inside without asking, never noticed they were here after they left due to picking up after themselves. Our 3 story home was no easy task but they managed to clean all of our 27 windows just fine.

If I could give Crystal Clean 10 stars, I would! My pergola was extremely dirty and moldy as my home power washing attempts could never get it clean. I was considering taking it down it was such an eyesore. It now looks brand new without a trace of mold to be found!

Cory was responsive from our very first contact, always following up and showing up. And our windows are literally sparkling, which I thought was just a phrase. The company uses soft water which reduces water stains.

Crystal Clean A1 has cleaned the solar panels on our house and HOA pool house twice now. Both times they were easy to communicate with, arrived as scheduled, and did a thorough job for a reasonable price. They're an easy company to recommend.

Corey has cleaned probably close to 20 houses of windows and solar panels and a driveway or two. I have always been more than satisfied with the work and he always goes above and beyond for a fair price.

Double glaze window cleaning perfection. At last a window cleaning company that really provides service. Timely and professional. Most window companies fall apart after first visit. For now 10 out of 10. Look no further, you found it.

Questions from this area

Why do my Morro Bay windows look hazy again a week after they were cleaned?
Because in Morro Bay the glass gets re-wetted almost every night, so nothing ever finishes drying. Airborne salt lands on a damp pane, dissolves in the fog, and dries back down as a haze rather than setting into a film you can wipe away. Two things make it worse. Any detergent residue left at the edge of the pane gets reactivated by that same fog and blooms inward within a day or two. And salt sitting in the top track and the head of the frame washes back down over clean glass at the next damp morning, which is why the frames have to be done as well.
Is pure water window cleaning better than soap and a squeegee in Morro Bay?
In Morro Bay, yes, and the reason is specific to this town rather than a general preference. A traditional soap clean leaves a faint surfactant edge on the pane. Inland that dries and sits there until the next visit. Here the fog returns the same night and re-wets it, so the residue draws in and shows as a ring by the second morning on glass that looked perfect on the day. Purified water through a water fed pole leaves nothing behind for the fog to reactivate. Crystal Clean A1 Window Services runs water fed poles across Morro Bay for exactly that reason, and they also reach the upper view glass from the ground.
Can salt damage on Morro Bay windows be cleaned off, or is the glass ruined?
In most cases it comes off. There are two different deposits people confuse. Calcium from well water sprinkler overspray, which is the usual problem inland around Paso Robles and Creston, slowly etches into the glass surface and at that point no cleaning brings it back. Salt, which is what a Morro Bay pane is almost always carrying, sits on top rather than eating in, so it rinses even after years of building up. The exception is a pane somebody has repeatedly wiped dry, because dragging a cloth over dry salt polishes it into the surface and can leave fine scratching.
Do you clean the window frames and tracks in Morro Bay or just the glass?
Frames, tracks, sills and screens all get done, and in Morro Bay that is not an upsell, it is the difference between a clean that holds and one that does not. Salt collects in the bottom track, in the weep holes and along the head of an aluminum frame, and all of that sits above or beside the pane. Leave it loaded and the next foggy morning carries it back down over the glass.
